Ancient Greek 4th Century BCE Pegasus Coin Diamonds 18K Gold Pendant
About the Item
An authentic silver "stater" coin from Arkarnania 350-300 BC depicts Pegasus flying to right with an "A" for Anactorium below. The opposite side features Athena, in a Corinthian helmet tilted above the face. Arkarnania was founded by settlers from Corinth, and adopted their coinage. Pegasus, in Greek mythology, was a winged horse that sprang from the blood of the Gorgon Medusa as she was beheaded by the hero Perseus. With Athena’s (or Poseidon’s) help, another Greek hero, Bellerophon, captured Pegasus and rode him first in his fight with the Chimera. Subsequently Bellerophon attempted to fly with Pegasus to heaven but was unseated and killed or, by some accounts, lamed. The winged horse became a constellation and the servant of Zeus. This pendant comes with a laminated lifetime coin certificate of authenticity. The coin is set within a Steven Battelle designed 18K pendant with 4 VS1 2mm diamonds surrounding. The 18K handmade hammered chain shown is not included, but can be ordered additionally. It comes in 18”, 20”, and 24” lengths. We discount our chains 20% when ordered with a pendant.

He incorporates primarily cabochon gemstones as well as ancient Greek and Roman coins, each piece capturing the feelings of a bygone age.
