THIS IS A SUPERB VICTORIAN PICTURE LOCKET NECKLACE WITH A HAND CARVED HARDSTONE CAMEO OF A BEAUTIFUL WOMAN. THE LOCKET HANGS FROM A WONDERFUL BOOK BELCHER CHAIN. THE NECKLACE DATES TO C1860-1890. The locket features a stunning hard stone hand carved Cameo of a woman in exquisite clorthes with a beautiful face, wonderful hair and wearing a pendant earring. The work of the artisan is absolutely superb. Carving hardstone cameos requires much greater skill and artistry than shell cameos. This white and black onyx carving is magnificent. This Victorian-era Etruscan Revival locket, circa 1870’s-1880’s, opens to reveal the daguerreotype of a young man. Across from it is a blank frame where an additional photo can still be added. The daguerreotype is hand-colored—the man has rosy cheeks and there is a slight blue tinge to the background. The front of the locket features ornate twisted-wire motifs and granulation, typical to the Etruscan Revival period, and there are seed pearls on the front emblem. The original bail can clip onto a larger chain, or a smaller chain can be slid through, so the locket can be styled in multiple ways. Etruscan Revival jewelry has a rich and interesting history. A stunning, fine and impressive antique black onyx, 3.50 carat coral and 0.36 carat demantoid garnet, 12ct karat yellow gold pendant; part of our diverse Victorian gemstone jewellery and estate jewelry collections. This stunning, fine and impressive antique pendant has been crafted in 12k yellow gold. The impressive oval shaped black onyx panel is embellished with an impressive feature round bead cut coral to the anterior surface. The central coral is encompassed with eighteen individually collet set demantoid garnets*, totalling 0.36ct. The reverse of the pendant is fitted with a push fit glass panel which allows a personal memento or keepsake to be displayed. This black onyx pendant is suspended from an 18' 18k yellow gold curb chain via a stylised fleur-de-lis bale ornamented with black hot enamel decoration in addition to a collet set round beat cut coral. The chain secures with a conventional spring-loaded bolt ring fastening to the reverse. This antique locket has been independently tested using state of the art technology (Niton XL2 Analyzer) and verified as 12 karat gold. The antique onyx pendant with coral is supplied with an independent gemstone grading report card. NOTE: * Demantoid is the green variety of andradite garnet and is the most valuable and rare of the garnet family. Some gemstones are more valuable for their inclusions, and horsetail inclusions can be regarded as preferable features in demantoid due to their indication of distinguished Russian origin.
