Georgian Crowned Turquoise Set Pomander Censer Pendant
About the Item
Back in the Georgian era, this Censer Pomander was a necessary piece of jewelry to offer relief to the smells of the streets for men and women. I am quite sure you looked at it and thought Hmm what is that. The turquoise embedded pendant opens and lo inside is a ball that opens as well. Solid perfume or cotton soaked in scent would be placed in this orb. The pendant would hang from a belt or chain at the neck. It was not unusual for women to faint at the smell of the streets. This utilitarian yet beautiful piece of history kept them upright and on their way. It is an extremely rare piece of jewelry that offers information about the Georgian life. Made of silver that has been gilded. Excellent condition. Made in Austro-Hungary Length 2 5/8. Width 1 inch
