Georgian Gold Cased Citrine Fob with Split Ring

About the Item

This exquisite antique Georgian fob pendant is a stunning example of the ornate craftsmanship of that era. The fob is encased in gold with intricate floral motifs that decorate its surface, showcasing the skilled artisanship typical of Georgian jewelry. The pendant is further adorned with a 9-karat gold split ring, making it ideal for attachment to a chain or pocket watch. At the base of the fob rests a rich, dark yellow citrine stone, radiating warmth and depth. The citrine, with its vibrant color, was often associated with prosperity and protection, making it not just a decorative piece but one with symbolic significance as well. Fobs were highly popular during the Georgian period (1714-1837) and were originally designed for practical use. Attached to a gentleman’s pocket watch via a chain, fobs acted as a counterbalance, allowing the watch to be easily pulled from the waistcoat pocket. However, over time, these functional accessories became more ornate and symbolic, reflecting the wearer’s status and personal style. Often, fobs were fitted with engraved stones or seals, which could be pressed into hot wax to seal letters or documents, adding a personal and distinguished touch to one’s correspondence. This Georgian fob pendant, with its delicate floral gold casing and beautifully set citrine, captures the elegance and multi-functionality of fobs during that era. It is a perfect example of how these pieces combined practicality with the artistry of fine jewelry, making them treasured items of both utility and adornment. The citrine has some small scratches on its surface. Measurements: Height: 4.5 centimeters Length: 2.3 centimeters Width: 1.9 centimeters Weight: 13.7 grams

Antique Georgian Carnelian Small Fob Pendant
Located in Rotterdam, NL
This antique Georgian fob pendant, dating back to the late 18th to early 19th century, is a fine example of the elegant craftsmanship of the period. The pendant is adorned with a carnelian stone, a richly colored orange-red gemstone that was highly favored during the Georgian era. The carnelian is polished and set securely into a decorative metal mount, featuring engraved lines throughout the fob. The pendant’s design reflects the artistic trends of the time, combining functionality with aesthetic appeal. Fobs were originally practical items used to seal letters and documents with wax. The base of the fob, typically engraved with a crest, monogram, or decorative motif, would leave an imprint in the wax, serving as a personalized signature. This made them essential tools for gentlemen and women of status during the Georgian era, as they were used for authenticating important communications. Beyond their functional purpose, fobs quickly became fashionable accessories, symbolizing wealth, style, and social standing. Worn on a pocket watch chain, waistcoat, or as pendants, fobs often showcased intricate designs and high-quality materials, such as precious stones like carnelian, amethyst, or agate. The vibrant carnelian stone was particularly popular due to its durability and its association with protection, vitality, and courage. Over time, fobs evolved from purely utilitarian objects to highly decorative jewelry pieces, admired for their beauty and craftsmanship. They were often gifted as sentimental tokens or symbols of affection, further enhancing their appeal. This Georgian carnelian...
