Georgian Sherry Colored Topaz Cross Pendant

About the Item

A Georgian topaz cross pendant, the centre and the arms of the Latin style cross set with sherry coloured faceted topazes, cut-down collet set to a gold mount and pendant loop, circa 1810, measuring approximately 6 x 4.2cm, gross weight 7.2 grams. Unmarked tested as 18ct gold with 15ct gold bail. A Georgian topaz cross pendant in very good condition, wear consistent with age and use. A gorgeous Georgian topaz cross pendant. This cross is set throughout with faceted topaz in a sherry hue. Coloured, faceted gemstones were a popular choice for jewellery during the beginning of the nineteenth century, and this bright, glinting cross pendant makes a lovely statement piece. Jane Austen and her sister Cassandra were given similar topaz cross pendants by their brother in 1801, when he brought the gifts for his sisters after serving in the Royal Navy: the cross pendants are now in the collection of Jane Austen’s House Museum. This pendant comes from the collection of Bentley & Skinner, the London jewellers by appointment to both Her Majesty the Queen and His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales and would look beautiful on either a gold chain (worn like Jane Austen would have worn it) or strung from a ribbon. Should you choose to make this purchase we would be delighted to send it to you in a Bentley & Skinner handmade leather case packed in a gift-wrapped Bentley & Skinner black and gold presentation box. Shortly afterwards we will send you on a valuation for insurance purposes for your reference and safekeeping.
