Vintage Spanish Cross 18 Karat Yellow Gold and Turquoise
About the Item
This Cross made entirely of 18kt Yellow Gold, recalls the Saint Aemilian of Cogolla's cross. Saint Aemilian was a hermit who lived in La Rioja, Spain during the VI century. Also known as the Visigoth Cross, it is a cross with anchor-shaped beams, that is, with the tips curved towards the outside like anchors. The twelve tips of its beams represent the twelve apostles.
There is a gold four leaf clover in the middle and the Cabochon-cut Turquoise is placed on each of the pendant's beams. Turquoise first came to Europe via Turkey probably accounting for its name, which is French for “Turkish”. The Clover and the beams ends are hammered finish. A hammered finish is an decorative treatment used on metal that is created by repeated blows of a small hammer. The cross is in very good used condition with few signs of wear.
