Arts and Crafts Pendant Necklaces
ARTS AND CRAFTS STYLE
The Arts and Crafts movement that emerged in England in the late 19th century saw a dehumanization of design in the rise of industrialization and mass production of objects. Its practitioners prized craftsmanship and a close connection between the artisan and the entire process of what they were making. This included the design of Arts and Crafts jewelry and watches, which evolved as the movement spread to the United States in the early 20th century.
While much of the Arts and Crafts furniture realm was dominated by male designers like William Morris and Gustav Stickley, several women came to prominence in Arts and Crafts jewelry design, including British metalworker Charlotte Newman and American enamelist and metalsmith Elizabeth Copeland. Many creators were part of guilds, encouraging an exchange of ideas, with some focused on jewelry, like England’s Guild and School of Handicraft — founded by Charles Robert Ashbee — and Birmingham Guild of Handicraft.
In contrast to the Victorian era, with its decadent gemstones and heavy mourning jewelry, designers of Arts and Crafts jewelry looked to the past and abroad for inspiration, from simple medieval shapes to East Asian styles. The movement’s emphasis on natural forms overlapped with Art Nouveau. Flourishes like leaves and flowers formed from silver, aluminum and copper can be found in bracelets and necklaces designed in this style, while rings and earrings are adorned with affordable gems such as turquoise and freshwater pearls.
Arts and Crafts jewelry designers used materials that were often simple, such as semiprecious stones and enamel, which is one of the oldest forms of surface decoration. Artisans prioritized the use of artistic techniques to elevate the jewelry rather than expensive components, and every piece was intended to be one of a kind — a work of wearable art.

Green Jadeite as a gemstone has plenty of history because it has been a part of people’s lives for many centuries.
It’s mainly considered as a symbol of serenity, tranquility, and purity. It’s a stone that’s believed to bring in good luck, friendship, peace, and harmony. They also symbolize perfection because of their indestructibility.

TYPE OF JADEITE
Type A Jadeite – Natural form
We consider this as the only accepted form that jadeite should be. Type A natural jadeite means that the subject qualifies to be free of any form of chemical treatment. As part of the polishing process, coating the jadeite with colorless wax is accepted so long as it does not damage the crystalline structure of the subject. After fine polishing, the jadeite item is dipped in heated wax of liquid form, and once cooled down it is buffed to give a smooth lustrous look much like the process of car waxing.
Type B Jadeite – Chemically treated and resin infused
Type B jadeite means that the subject has been soaked in acid which removes impurities or oxidation stains producing a “bleaching” effect. This process lightens the color of many materials including jadeite and leaves many holes or micro craters inside throughout the subject. Next, it is placed into a vacuum chamber where polymer resins are infused into it and after the final polish the treated jadeite looks smooth and lustrous in color. Unfortunately, the appearance of Type B jadeite can change and deteriorate over time. The polymer resin can discolor and oxidize when exposed to heat and sunlight and turn yellowish.

14K Rose Gold Silver and Amethyst Fob
Located in Venice, CA
This mixed-metal piece combines 14k rose gold and silver in the beautiful floral and foliate motif of an open work cone. A rose gold flower dangles in silhouette, surrounded by a frame of silver leaves. At the bottom is a deep purple amethyst, emerald cut and bezel set. When looked at head on, the structure of the cone can be seen through the amethyst, giving an infinity effect as the floral motif is reflected kaleidoscopically within the stone.
The fob is circa the Arts and Crafts Movement of the early 1900’s. It is entirely handmade—each element hand sawn, assembled, and hand engraved. Because it is mixed-metal, it looks lovely on both gold and silver chains...
