Wendy Ramshaw Resin and Nickel Alloy Necklace 1988

About the Item

A resin and nickel alloy "Orbit" necklace, from her famous program of neckpieces, by Wendy Ramshaw, United Kingdom, 1988. The visually graphic necklace is 29" in circumference. The approximate weight is 340.54 grams. Wendy Ramshaw was an innovator who worked across fields - ceramics, jewelry, sculpture, and design. She began making paper jewelry in the 1960s for Mary Quant, long before “contemporary” jewelry took hold of our imaginations. She invented stacking rings and won an award for it in 1972. She designed Gates to Hyde Park in London, among other famous ventures. She broke down the barriers between jewelry and sculpture in her famed Ring Sets. She brought her obsession with geometry to jewelry and made it vividly beautiful in the richness of gold. Honored by the Queen twice, Ramshaw held both a CBE and an OBE.
