About the Item

This luminous, translucent, earth-toned 100% natural Xinjiang hetian jade pebble is attached to a base-metal bail and a 4 mm thick cord that is approximately 24". It can slip easily over the head so that the pebble can be worn as a pendant against the chest, wrapped around the wrist and held in the hand, or threaded through a belt loop and then placed into a pocket. This pendant or carrying stone would have been created from a natural river-smoothened pebble and been untouched by tools except to drill a hole for the cord. Under microscopic examination, the bail appears to be of 19th-century construction, possibly as far back as the Qing dynasty. The cord and its metal tip are clearly later additions, added most likely in the 1960s or 1970s. The antique original bail retains evidence of gold gilding. This is a remarkable and powerful object. It has so clearly been gripped in the hand or carried inside a pocket for generations by an untold number of people, whose lives may or may not have been intertwined. A stone such as this would have served as personal fortification against many ills in life. And it would have been a comforting, soothing stone to stroke with the thumb. "Worry stones" exist because they do, in fact, ease worry, as anyone who has ever carried one can tell you. Which makes this rare and highly collectible Xinjiang hetian jade pebble ideal for a person in a position of extreme power and responsibility. As smooth as glass, this pebble will hide in the front pocket of the finest, most fitted suit and be all but undetectable. There, it will serve as a place to park one's anxiety, fear, frustration. Rubbing it releases those anxious feelings into the stone. This spectacular and unique treasure ships with laboratory certification stating that it is natural and untreated nephrite.
