An Art Nouveau Purest Silver Sterline Match Safe c.1900

About the Item

This match safe is made of the finest and most pure sterling silver known as sterline. The front and back are embossed with raised images. On the front is a woman of ideal beauty with long flowing hair that wraps arond the entire face of the matchsafe. Roses are engraved amidst the curving strand of hair. The reverse is framed with swirling engraving as well. At bottom are ridges on which to strike the match. Paper matches were just coming to existence. Match safes kept matches safe from lighting until removed and struck on the bottom. This is a typical art nouveau rendering of the glorified female in a useful object.
