Victorian Diamond Fringe Tiara Convertible To A Necklace Circa 1880s
About the Item
A beautiful Victorian diamond tiara convertible to a necklace c.1880s, the tiara formed of a graduated row of eleven fringe spires of foliate and scroll design with fleur-de-lys details, set throughout with old brilliant cut diamonds, the spires of alternating design and length, the principle ones terminated with a fleur-de-lys motif above a single diamond between crossed scrolls, the others formed of a foliate spray topped with a single diamond, all set in silver and gold above a knife edge bar embellished with sixteen diamonds which forms the back of the necklace. The necklace is formed of these two separate pieces which are joined together by a hook and eye clasp to either side, in original brown leather box with silk and velvet lining.

Directors Notes
The fringe tiara is a classic of the Victorian period and this is a lovely delicate design and a very wearable example, its convertible nature making it a more versatile and useful jewel. Whilst the tiara would be worn for more formal occasions, the necklace could be worn more informally and therefore more frequently. The tiara is comfortable to wear as it is relatively light, the open airy style creating visual impact without weight. As a necklace it sits around the base of the throat and the articulation in the piece allows it some movement and to fit nicely. The diamonds catch the light beautifully with a subtle sparkle and the overall effect is elegant and refined, whichever way it is worn.
