THIS IS A SUPERB AND RARE EARLY ANTIQUE TIBETAN THANKGA PAINTING OF VAISRAVANA DATING TO THE 18TH CENTURY. THE PAINTING ON PAPER IS EXQUISITE WITH BLUES AND REDS AND BLACK LINE DRAWING. THE THANKGA DATES TO THE 1700S AND IS PART OF A COLLECTION THAT WAS PURCHASED FROM CHRISTIES. THE THANKGA IS FRAMED. PROVENANCE - CHRISTIE'S - A WONDERFUL RARE EARLY MINIATURE IN A VERY RARE SMALL SIZE WITH SUPERB DETAILS! Thangka Arts are considered Buddhist iconography, each painting will symbolically represent divinities and passages based on the teachings of the Buddha. The painting is 3.5 inches (8.5 cm) tall and 3 inches wide. The painting is framed in a 13 inches by 9 inch frame. On the reverse is written Tibetan/Vaisravana, "Golden King of Naijin". 18C

    This is the exceedingly rare Royal Norwegian Order of Saint Olav presented to actress and Oscar Winner Celeste Holm. The medal is housed in the original case which is signed on the bottom by Celeste Holm. The medal is virtually never available for purchase as it is treasured by the rarified group of recipients who have received it. The Royal Norwegian Order of St. Olav (Den Kongelige Norske St. Olavs Orden), was presented to Celeste Holm when she was Knighted by King Olav V of Norway in 1977. Celeste Holm was of Norwegian descent. The Order of St. Olav is the highest civilian honor currently conferred by Norway. The Grand Master of the order is the reigning monarch of Norway. The medal is awarded to reward individuals for remarkable accomplishments on behalf of the country and humanity. The medal is silver gilt with white and red enamel hung from the original ribbon pin. The medal of the Order is a white enameled Maltese Cross. Crowned monograms of King Olav "O" appear between the arms of the cross. The central disc is red with the golden Norwegian lion bearing a battle-axe; the reverse bears the motto of King Oscar "Ret og Sandhed" – "Justice and Truth." The cross is topped by an enameled crown. The medal itself is 2 1/2 inches long and is 1 3/4 inches wide. With the ribbon the medal is 4 inches long. The medal is slightly rubbed on the verso. The case is marked by the maker "J. Tostrup." Celeste Holm (April 29, 1917 – July 15, 2012) was an American stage, film and television actress. Holm won an Academy Award for her performance in Elia Kazan's Gentleman's Agreement (1947), and was nominated for her roles in Come to the Stable (1949) and All About Eve (1950). She also is known for her performances in The Snake Pit (1948), A Letter to Three Wives (1949), and High Society (1956). She is also known for originating the role of Ado Annie in the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical Oklahoma! (1943) and the Soap Opera Loving.
