A wonderful, figural antique Victorian gold-filled cane top or walking stick handle.
In the form of a muzzled bear with cropped ears.
Bear Baiting was a brutal blood sport akin to modern dog fighting that pitted a bear (often tethered and muzzled) in pit fights against dogs or other animals. The practice that dates back to at least the 16th century and essentially came to an end in 19th century.
Engraved on the reverse: RTH 1885
