Gold and Gunmetal Carpenter's Pencil, circa 1900

About the Item

We love this unusual telescoping carpenters pencil made of 9K gold and gunmetal. Gunmetal is a smooth, black coated alloy of 9 parts copper and 1 part tin, and was used to make jewelry and other beautiful objects in the 19th and early 20th century. Gunmetal is no longer made today, so you can be assured that anything of gunmetal dates to the Victorian or Edwardian period. This striking gunmetal carpenter's pencil will hang around your neck, preferably from a beautiful chain, available anytime you need a pencil at the ready. We have shown the pencil hanging from an original niello watch chain, also available from us on First Dibs and sold separately. Perfect and unique gift for that carpenter, architect or interior designer in your life who is always in need of a pencil at the ready for a quick sketch to show a client.
