A Secret Message on a Large Georgian Fob/Seal
About the Item
two are engraved with smalller crests and stars. Above the crest, a marching
lion holds a bow. The magic of a fob such as this is that it's symbols fire our
imagination. Who owned this seal? Many hints point to it belonging to a
nobleman of importance in his time, c.1830, His seal was impressed in wax and was his signature on documents. Those who saw it, knew the person behind the seal. Now the symbols are lost in history. The split ring on top of the fob is a rare one. It is engraved with a serpent that holds it's tail in it's mouth. Below the crest are the words Sui Croce.
Today the seal would be worn attached to a watch chain or bracelet. Women
wear fobs suspended from a chain at the neck. the height is 2 inches including the ring. The condition is perfect.
