Antique 18th Century Italian Brass Pricket Candlesticks
Located in Portland, GB
A fine pair of 18th century Italian brass pricket candlesticks impressively decorated in a baroque style with knopped stems and triform bases decorated with cartouche and foliage alterations. The columns are beautifully ornated on each side with leaves and floral motifs typical of the Baroque era. The finely detailed columns stand on tripartite bases. The columns are finished with large round brass cups that have scalloped edges and 75mm tall iron prickets. In the centre of each leg there is an elegant escutcheon surrounded by scrolls and finalised with a leaf decoration. PROVENANCE: This pair of Italian candlesticks comes from the Cotswold collection, property of Mr Weil, antiques dealer who established his antiques company in 1932, during the Great Depression, creating a firm of international fame, trading in fine English furniture and antiques from showrooms in London, Bristol, Cheltenham and Broadway's Eadburgha House. Old Signed Carved Nephrite Jade German / Russian Hippopotamus Figure
Located in Philadelphia, PA
A very fine carved Nephrite Jade hippopotamus figurine. Likely the work of the German lapidary carvers in Idar Oberstein (or possibly Russian in origin). The feet of the hippo have numbered inscription or signature. Simply a great carving! Date: 20th Century Overall Condition: It is in overall good, as-pictured, used estate condition. There are a few round concussion marks here and there, loss to one ear, a small fracture in one nostril (likely from the carving), some edge wear, and some very fine & light surface scratches and other signs of expected light wear consistent with age Maker: Possibly from Idar Oberstein (or one of the Russian houses...

Antique Italian Pink Coral and Sterling Silver Letter Opener
Located in Roma, IT
This silver and antique coral letter opener was handmade by our talented goldsmiths, who used a coral branch from Sciacca, the Sicilian town famous for its corals. The Sciacca Coral has unique origins in the world: it is closely tied to the exceptional history of the Ferdinandea Island, which is a submerged volcanic island in the Strait of Sicily, between Pantelleria and Sciacca. As of today the summit of the Ferdinandea Island remains between about 6 and 8 meters below the Mediterranean Sea level. Its most recent appearance as an island was in July 1831. In the late 1831, in a shoal (called later ”Bummolo” by the fishermen of Sciacca) located around 30 miles from Sciacca, a new island emerged in a fiery hell from the depths of the Strait of Sicily. However, one year later, the island sank back beneath the waters and definitely disappeared in the Strait of Sicily. Over time, thanks to the exceptional microclimate determined by the frequent volcanic phenomena along the slopes of the submerged volcano, huge coral...
