About the Item

This rare pair of silverJapanese buttons was created in the second half of the 19th century. The buttons are designed as a pair of chrysanthemums in a highly naturalistic manner There is an impressed mark on the reverse, signs in an upright rectangle stating that the buttons are made out of silver. The buttons are of very fine quality and smoothness. One button has retained its fastener.

First produced in 1907 by the American silversmith company, Reed & Barton, this pair of sterling silver platters has repousse fruit motifs. Repousse is a metalwork technique where the verso (back) side is hammered to produce low relief images that can be seen when viewing the front.
