Carlo and Arthur Giuliano Antique Diamond Wing Brooch circa 1900
Located in London, GB
Antique diamond wing brooch, attributed to Carlo and Arthur Giuliano, circa 1900. A gold and silver brooch in the form of a pair of outstretched wings, the wings with one hundred and sixteen pavé set round old cut diamonds with an approximate total weight of 5.80 carats, and additionally set with two old cut drop shaped diamonds set to top and bottom of the centrepiece with an approximate total weight of 2.05 carats. Originally part of a hair ornament. In a fitted Wartski box, authentication courtesy of Wartski. This brooch appears in 'Pre-Raphaelite to Arts and Crafts Jewellery', by Charlotte Gere and Geoffrey Munn, p. 12. Please note shipping to the United States of America requires the purchaser to fill out a CBP 5106 customs form before the item is shipped. This form is a legal requirement for any item over $2,000 which is being imported into the United States. One of the details the form requests is the purchaser’s social security number or importer’s number. One of the most collectable makers of antique jewellery is the London house of Giuliano, founded by the Neapolitan-born Carlo Giuliano, and succeeded by his sons Carlo and Arthur Alphonse. Though unmarked, this piece is likely to have once been a part of a tiara or hair ornament made by Giuliano due to its similarity to other signed pieces by the firm. There are five known pieces, in addition to the present jewel, by Giuliano which are comprised of a pair of diamond set wings with a larger stone or stones placed at centre. All five—a convertible hair ornament/brooch, a tiara, and three brooches—appeared in Wartski’s 1989 exhibition Artists’ Jewellery: Pre-Raphaelite to Arts and Crafts, and additionally two of these five are featured in the book of the same title by Charlotte Gere and Geoffrey Munn. The present piece is most similar to the diamond hair ornament...

Rare Art Nouveau Burmese Spinel Diamond Antique Pendant
Located in Chicago, IL
This rare pendant was made in Saint Petersburg between 1904 and 1908 by Carl Blank, jeweler of the Russian Imperial Court and Tsar Nicholas II. The pendant is finely crafted in matte platinum (front) and 14K gold (back). It features two excellent red spinels from Burma accented by old mine cut diamonds. The spinels were tested by Swiss Gemmological Institute in Basel (test report no. 87913) and found to be natural and untreated. Estimated total spinel weight is 2.70 carats. Approximate total diamond weight is 3.18 carats. In the early 1900s, platinum was an exotic metal. In Russia, it was rarely used in jewelry (not until 1930s). Apparently only jewelers of the Imperial court like Faberge, Bolin and Blank experimented with platinum. Marked on frame with 56 zolotnik old Russian gold standard (there was no mark for platinum at that time) and on bail with maker’s initials ‘ CB’ for Carl Blank, St. Petersburg assay mark with initials ‘AP’ for assay master Alexander Romanov...

Edwardian 1900 Agate Desk Seal In 18Kt Gold With The Arms of The Prince of Wales
Located in Miami, FL
Desk seal with the arms of the Prince of Wales. Very rare and unusual desk seal, created in England during the Edwardian period, back in the early 1900's. This seal feature the arms of the Prince of Wales and is composed by the agate pommel, carved with smooth surfaces and the round mount setting crafted in yellow gold of 18 karats with scrolls decorations. The seal depicts three feathers aligned over a crown, carved with incised intaglio in natural white agate. Gemstones: The handle pommel is carved from a single piece of brown translucent agate with bluish veins. Weight: 14.95 Grams, (9.58 Dwt). Measurements: 41 mm by 19 mm (1.61 x 0.75 Inches). Hallmarks: No marks, electronically tested for 18 karats gold. Arms of Prince of Wales The Prince of Wales's feathers – Almost History The coat of arms of the Prince of Wales is the official personal heraldic insignia of the Princes of Wales, a title traditionally granted to the heir apparent of the reigning monarch of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, formerly the Kingdom of Great Britain and before that the Kingdom of England. Since Edward I awarded it to his son the future Edward II, the heir apparent to the English throne has been created with the title Prince of Wales. The history of the coat of arms is closely linked with those of the Royal coat of arms of England and the Royal coat of arms of the United Kingdom. However, as the noted antiquarian and heraldist Charles Boutell wrote in 1863, "The Arms of the Prince of Wales have a distinct individuality of their own, with which nothing ought to be directly associated". History The badge has no connection with the native Princes of Wales. Its use is generally traced back to Edward, the Black Prince (1330–1376), eldest son and heir apparent of Edward III of England. Edward bore (as an alternative to his differenced royal arms) a shield of Sable, three ostrich feathers argent, described as his "shield for peace", probably meaning the shield he used for jousting. These arms can be seen several times on his chest tomb in Canterbury Cathedral, alternating with his royal arms (the royal arms of King Edward III...
