An 18th century gold gimmel ring

About the Item

An 18th century gold gimmel ring, consisting of three separate hoops linked together so they can fit together unnoticeably as one, embellished with two interlocking hands pulled apart to reveal a heart to the centre within, circa 1750, measuring 2 x 0.8cm, finger size M¾ , gross weight 8.2 grams. This antique ring is in very good condition for its age. Unmarked, tested as 18ct gold. A romantic and sentimental mid-eighteenth century gimmel ring from the collection of Bentley & Skinner, the London jewellers by appointment to both Her Majesty the Queen and His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales. This lovely yellow gold gimmel ring is composed of three interlocking hoops that fit together to form one complete ring. It features two interlocking hands which, when pulled apart, reveal a heart in the centre. Such rings were fashionable in medieval and Renaissance times, and were often used as betrothal rigs. An early example dated to 1350 can be found in the Victoria and Albert Museum. This charming ring would make an unusual and original engagement ring. The finger size of most of our rings can be adjusted and our workshop will be happy to do this free of charge. If you do not know your finger size please request us to post you a finger measure. Should you choose to make this purchase we would be delighted to send it to you in a Bentley & Skinner handmade leather case packed in a gift-wrapped Bentley & Skinner black and gold presentation box. Shortly afterwards we will send you on a valuation for insurance purposes for your reference and safekeeping.
