Jade Band Ring Ming's Hawaii Circa 1950 Mint Condition Certified

About the Item

This mint-condition early Mid-century 14K yellow gold band ring features a 10.6 x 7.7mm cabochon of natural, untreated Burmese jadeite jade. The ring was created by Ming's of Hawaii; an iconic Hawaiian jeweler who created magnificent and unusual jade and pearl jewelry throughout the middle of the previous century. The ribbed band is timelessly stylish. It measures 10.80mm at the widest part, tapering to 98.75 in the rear. It is exceedingly comfortable. This is the *Perfect* everyday ring. The translucent cabochon of deep emerald-green displays a pre-industrial revolution (prior to 1950) polish that was created without electric polishing tools and modern abrasives. It is a very fine, smaller jade stone and in many ways, atypical of the jadeite used by Ming's: they tended to use unusual, pale, highly translucent "water" jade in "off" tones that were not widely featured in jewelry all the time but are now enormously popular. Because the stone is original to the band and the band is fully hallmarked, I believe this is an early ring from Ming's. Probably created around 1950 but it's quite possibly from the 1940s. Creator Wook Ming established his namesake store and was experimental in his earlier years Eventually, the jeweler landed on a "style" and it was this distinctive look that made mings so popular throughout the middle of the previous century. Much of their jewelry was un-stamped with a maker's mark because, hilariously, their jewelry became so popular but they remained a "mom and pop" outfit, and they only had one or two "Ming's" stamps and sometimes it was at one branch, sometimes at the other. This ring is unique among Ming's catalog of jewelry. Possibly, it was a custom piece. The ring is a size 8 and could be resized by your local jeweler. It ships with a certificate from Stone Group Labs stating that the jade is untreated jadeite from Burma (Myanmar).
