About the Item
This is a completely one off unusual fairytale twig ring, like a forest of roses climbing around the stone. If you are here I expect you a re looking for something no-one else has, this is the only one of its kind.
I made this ring as a proof of concept for another bespoke ring commission which you can actually see in the video. My client was writing her thesis on feminism in fairy tales and we talked around the idea of a rose forest entangling the ring, thinking about Sleeping Beauty and things being hidden in the ring. I wanted to give a feeling that you had to keep looking, deeply into the ring to see all the hidden textures.
The ring has rose brambles and seven tiny leaves all around a beautiful lilac spinel in the centre. There is a lilac sapphire set and a tiny pink one hidden under the bramble. Around the back is a champagne diamond.
The ring is decorated using the ancient Japanese art of kinko, using a hammer and punch to carefully texture each area. Its entirely hand made.
The ring is made from my own blend 18 carat peach gold alloy which is created from recycled fine gold.
It measures about 8mm wide in total and is size Q1/2

The Remarkable Goldsmiths
We are Isabella Day and Ford Hallam... Artist Jewellers and Goldsmiths with a combined experience of over 50 years at the bench. Our alchemical Renaissance metalwork happens in our magical studio in Devon where we are supported our Business administrator, Morgan. Together we are real old-fashioned Goldsmiths making remarkable, contemporary treasure. A rarity today but as tradition dictates, we blend all our own gold alloys and recycle all our metal. We have created over 28 different colours of gold which we then shape, forge and hand craft, entirely in house, into whatever you desire. Our creative philosophy and sense of colour has led us to specialise in distinct, colourful and ethical gemstones. Ford is a master Goldsmith of 40 years. He is the world’s leading expert in decorative Japanese metalsmithing and the only non-native ever to have been adopted into the Japanese tradition. His work is held in prestigious collections such as the V&A and Kiyomizu Sannenzaka Museum in Kyoto, Japan. From this comes much of the decorative technique we employ in our work. Our jewels are textured using Japanese Kinko techniques; working the metal with hammer, punch and chisel. Isabella is a Goldsmith of 15 years. Isabella has a particular concern for colour and tone in jewellery design. She was shortlisted for designer of the year in 2016 and this year has been selected as one of the top 100 female entrepreneurs for 2022.
