1960s Vourakis Red Enamel Pave Diamond Gold Buckle Ring
About the Item
A very chic ring in 18 carat gold designed as a buckle, the uppermost part enamelled to a to a rich crimson. The bar of the buckle is represented by a diamond bombe finial in white gold pave-set with 16 round brilliant diamonds with a total approximate weight of 0.60 carats.
The richness of this crimson enamel is highlighted by the brilliance of the diamonds and complemented by the yellow gold of the shank of this ring. Although unsigned, this ring forms part of a demi-parure (or half-set) consisting of a ring, earrings and a brooch; the earrings of which are signed ‘Vourakis’.
The ring is marked 750 for Continental manufacture, and has an indecipherable mark, which may be a partial number. It is currently size 4.5 US (UK - I), but may be sized up slightly if required. Made in Greece circa 1960.
Vourakis was known as the 'Greek Van Cleef et Arpels', as their designs were considered to be equivalent in style and quality to that great French house. Founded in 1926, they supplied jewellery and trinkets to the Royal House of Athens. Every piece of jewellery was designed and made especially for each customer, resulting in new and original designs.
