Carved Jade Ring from Arts & Crafts Period

About the Item

This Arts & Crafts era silver ring features a large (39 mm x 21 mm) richly saturated mottled emerald-green natural and untreated jadeite jade plaque that has been carved and pierced in a floral motif and set into a hand-fabricated silver mounting of exceptional artistry and craftsmanship. The jade carving has a gorgeous old-school polish and is richly saturated with primarily three shades of green: an apple green, a lighter celadon and several areas of dark "imperial" green. Milgrain, twisted wire and a rub-over bezel secure the jade in its closed-back setting. A hole on the rear of the backing aligns with one of the pierced holes and would allow for any liquid to drain. The shoulders are decorated with two genuinely exquisite hand-embossed design elements depicting flora that is, unfortunately, not a part of my botanical lexicon. Shrunken pineapples? On the interior of the band are a stamped hallmark and a hand-scratched maker's mark or other mark. Fine jade such as this carving is most frequently encountered set in platinum or gold. I'm always excited when I find a beautiful piece of jade set into silver. Silver and green are a perfect combination and I'm not just saying that because I have jade-green high-gloss enamel-kitchen cabinets with chrome knobs. The ring was hand-crafted in China near the turn of the last century. The jade carving looks to me to be from the same era. Much older and the quality—as in style—of the polish would be different. Currently a size 10, this bold statement ring is truly unisex. The only conditions to wearing this ring: you gotta like green, you gotta like jade and you gotta like big. Although I never sent this ring to the gem lab for testing, I am a second-generation jade collector, and a certified professional gemologist with advanced training in jade. I guarantee the stone to be untreated jadeite jade from Burma (Myanmar).

Jade & Pearl Ring Certified Untreated
Located in Southbury, CT
A large oval cabochon of translucent seafoam green jadeite jade is surrounded by 16 luminous natural pearls in this ever-stylish 14K white gold halo ring from the early 1950s. The jade stone is natural and untreated and displays a high degree of translucency. Which is why this jade ring looks spectacular whether it is in direct sunshine, or just barely illuminated by the waning light of a nearby window. The luminous jade stone changes its appearance throughout the day, as the light changes. The jade cabochon measures 14.5mm x 9.19mm Seafoam green was pointedly on-trend in the 1950s when this ring was hand-fabricated. The pearls surrounding the jade are at least partially drilled —possibly they are drilled all the way through; I can't tell because of how they are set in the mounting. At least one and probably all of the pearls are natural, un-cultured saltwater pearls. They are older than the ring itself. It's not unusual to encounter repurposed jewelry...
