About the Item

A natural untreated 31.74 carat sapphire and diamond ring in platinum, circa 1950. The truly stunning ring is set to its centre with an impressive natural, untreated 31.74 carat cushion cut sapphire which is securely four-claw set in platinum. The sapphire has a desirable vibrant cornflower blue colour, adding to this, it is a natural untreated Ceylon sapphire certified as such by the industry respected Gubelin Gem Lab in Switzerland. As this is a natural, untreated stone there are natural inclusions such as colour zoning and feathers which can be seen within the stone. We feel that these enhance the beauty of the stone and you would expect to see such inclusions within a natural sapphire of this significant size. The stone is framed either side by an elegant combination of tapered baguette cut diamonds within a fine channel setting and mixed old and single cut diamonds within grain settings for a total of 1.15 carats approximately. These side shoulders taper beautifully down the finger and are a perfect paring with the centre stone. The sapphire is set within a gallery setting and the diamonds an open fretwork when viewed from the side, allowing light to filter through the stones and making for a fantastic return of colour intensity, fire and brilliance. This is an unforgettable, exceptional ring! Components: Natural, untreated sapphire: 31.74 carats Diamonds: 1.15 carats estimated as G colour VS1 clarity Platinum - unstamped but tested. Dimensions - height 17.92mm x width 16.04mm x depth 11.41mm The ring is currently a UK finger size M (USA size 6.25) but this can be resized for a perfect fit. In addition to the laboratory report from The Gubelin, the ring is also accompanied by a complimentary valuation for insurance and authenticity. Condition Overall the condition of the ring is very good, with some slight abrasions to the surface of the platinum, in keeping with its general age.
