In 1954, Van Cleef & Arpels came up with the ingenious concept of 'La Boutique', which was a line of jewelry that catered to a wealthy yet younger set of clientele who wished to have the highest quality jewelry for daytime wear. Originally created 1968, the Philippine rings fit the theme of La Boutique jewels perfectly. Inlaid with panels of various hardstones and centering on a panel of round diamonds, they are perfect whether worn on their own or stacked in various color combinations. The Philippine ring while no longer produced it is an incredibly wearable, instantly recognizable, icon of jewelry design. Van Cleef & Arpels onyx and diamond 'Philippine' ring. Designed as five rows of round diamonds flanked on either side by a carved panel of onyx, mounted in gold. Set with eighteen round single cut diamonds in open back grain settings with an approximate total weight of 0.60 carats to a impressive bombé design featuring a central curving bezel, gold rope-work borders and open backholing, flanked by tapering dome shaped onyx panelled shoulders and flowing through to a solid tapering D-shape shank. Marked 18 carat yellow gold, maker's mark 'VCA' for Van Cleef & Arpels, numbered 68 C 11 86 98', exterior of band marked 'P&Fils' for Péry et Cie, Bought in New York in the 80s. Péry worked as manufacturer for Van Cleef & Arpels, but also worked for Boivin, Mellerio, Boucheron, Chaumet and other important French jewelers. The historic jewelery workshop of A.
