About the Item
Victorian citrine and diamond coronet cluster ring. Centrally set with an octagonal step-cut natural citrine in an open back grain setting with an approximate weight of 17.00 carats, surrounded by thirty four round rose cut diamonds in closed back cut-down settings with a combined approximate weight of 0.30 carats, to an impressive elongated cluster design, featuring polished edges, an intricately decorated gallery with graduating scalloped detail and open and closed backholing, the broad integrated shoulders with openwork linear details taper through to a solid flat shank. Tested yellow gold and settings tested silver, circa 1870.
Citrine, with its warming golden glow, is a sought after gemstone which can trace its popularity back through the centuries. It gained particular prominence in the Victorian era, with Queen Victoria herself known to favour the gemstone, often incorporating it into her Scottish-themed jewellery. Citrine's popularity saw a revival during the Art Deco era, especially after Cartier created an opulent citrine tiara for the 1937 coronation of King George VI. This iconic piece helped cement citrine’s status as a fashionable and sophisticated choice in 20th-century jewellery design.
