Old Mine Cut Diamond Engagement Ring - Original Georgian Diamond & Setting

About the Item

One of a kind, this elegant Georgian style engagement ring was custom made to highlight the original Georgian period old mine cut diamond I found in an antique French brooch. As the old brooch was damaged, I rescued the suite of antique diamonds in their original cut down collet silver settings, of which this diamond was the centerpiece, and the largest. (the smaller diamonds are being made into multi stone bands and earrings - please note the last hand shot shows one of the bands worn with this solitaire - they make an amazing wedding set; the band is available in a separate listing) Incredibly fiery and lively, the stunning old mine cut diamond weighs .816 carats. (we carefully removed the diamond from its collet setting to repolish it, and then replaced it; originally the diamond weighed .83 carats) Chunky, and cushiony with an open culet - and all the fire I look for in antique diamonds. It's a truly beautiful old stone and has very good color and clarity, particularly for the era. (any multi colors you see in my photos are reflections) (Diamond jewelry from this period generally had closed backed settings with foil lining the diamonds - we created this ring with the wonderful style of a Georgian ring (including the distinctive rayed back) but without foil and with a small opening so one doesn't have to worry about getting the ring wet when washing one's hands or cleaning the ring. So, you can enjoy the charm and history of the diamond, without losing easy care and functionality) The original cut down collet silver setting rests on the 18K gold beaded base, that encircles the rayed back. Each spilt shoulder features a stylized trefoil flower motif, with patinated details running down the shoulders and continuing into a reeded style band. A plain polished gold area at the back is available, should you wish to size the ring up or down. Very elegant, the ring has a wonderful presence on the hand - tons of sparkle, period charm and lots of detail. The face of the ring measures approximately 15.7 x 8.2 mm, with a rise off the finger of approximately 5.6 mm at its highest point. The shoulders gradually taper from approximately 6.9 mm to 1.64 mm at the narrowest part of the back of the band. Inside, the ring is marked for both 18K gold and sterling silver. On my scale the piece weighs 3.6 grams. Currently a size 7, it may be sized up or down within reason by a good jeweler. (at least three sizes should be fine, perhaps a bit more based on your jewelers comfort level; if you size it up more than just a bit, I recommend adding more gold to keep the band nice and sturdy) A very special ring. Wear consistent with age and use. Original cut down collet setting with patina shows light wear, the rest of the ring is in excellent condition with the diamond newly polished and the mounting custom made.
