About the Item

About the Ancient Coin The reverse side of the coin depicts Victoria, the Roman goddess of victory and daughter of Pallas and Styx. Also known as Winged Victory, she was often worshipped by triumphant generals returning from war. Often compared with the Greek Goddess Nike, she is unlike Nike in that Nike represented victory in athletics, while Victoria represented victory over death. The obverse side of the coin depicts Valentinian I, the Emperor of Rome from 364 to 375 AD, who ruled as co-emperor with his brother, Valens, retaining the western part of the Empire. He conducted many successful military campaigns and founded the Valentinian Dynasty. His violent and brutal temper led him to suffer a stroke during diplomatic negotiations, leading to his death. The coin is set in a custom-designed silver ring made from completely recycled materials. Size N (Australia and UK sizing) or 6 3/4 (US and Canada).
