High Carat Gold Ring Set with a Renaissance Carnelian Cameo of a Dolphin. Renaissance cameo, 16th century; modern gold ring mount. Ring Size: Q UK / 8.25 US / 58 EU. The Cameo Measures: 1.9 × 1.3 cm. An oval carnelian intaglio carved in low relief with the stylised form of a dolphin, depicted with gracefully arched body and extended snout. The gem is of a rich orange-red hue, its translucent body enhanced by subtle tonal variations within the stone. The carving exhibits the fluid, emblematic treatment of marine motifs typical of the Renaissance period, evoking the animal’s symbolic associations with speed, guidance, and divine protection at sea. The cameo is set within a high carat gold rub-over mount of modern manufacture, the plain, slender hoop drawing attention to the warmth and clarity of the stone. A small historic chip is visible at the tip of the tail, consistent with age and use.
