About the Item

The lush emerald-green jade cabochon set into this hand-fabricated 18K yellow gold mounting is so evenly toned, so vibrant, and so fine that when I first saw the ring I instantly dismissed it as an imposter. "Peking glass," I thought. But I had to at least look at it before turning my back. And when I did hold the ring in my hands and peer at the jade through my jeweler's loupe, I was astounded: this was no chunk of Peking glass. This was the real thing. Created near the turn of the previous century, most likely in China, this Art Nouveau ring features a foliate motif on the shoulders. There is a sort of beveled platform upon which the 18.9mm x 12.6mm cabochon of jade rests, secured by four angular compass-point prongs. The jadeite cabochon is simply startling. It is a bright and lively emerald-green with a nearly perfectly-even tone. There is no mottling here or patches of discoloration. The stone is highly translucent. The last two images were taken in natural light. As you can clearly see for yourself, this is a stone of extraordinary quality. Currently a size 6 ½, this unisex ring could be resized by your local jeweler. If I were to keep this ring for myself —and believe me, I consider doing so every day— I would have a jeweler lengthen the prongs ever-so-slightly so that they wrapped just over the edge of the stone. The jade is secured in place with both prongs and jeweler's glue and while this is perfectly routine, I prefer a setting that is 100% mechanical. I don't offer jewelry modifications but extending the prongs is a minor procedure and it would eliminate any danger of this magnificent jade stone freeing itself. This ring ships with a certificate from Stone Group Labs stating that the jade is Burmese jadeite and is untreated.
