About the Item
18K rare Victorian five stone Burma ruby half hoop ring. The five stone half hoop ring, popularized during the Victorian era, was loved for its emphasis on the gemstones and attractive hand carved gold band. The ring is set "a jour", or "open to the day", so it can be worn everyday. The stones are polished and clear.
The details of this ring are noteworthy, with the "London Bridge" style band, small diamond accents ornamental gold balls along the edges crown. There are many variations on the Victorian five stone hoop ring, and this is clearly an earlier version, as evidenced by the more classical form of the gold "London Bridge" crown (so called because the tall gold crown resembles the vertical features of the London Bridge when viewed in elevation). The crown was clearly crafted by hand.
Five stone rubies are a rare find, one usually finds the 5 stone hoop in diamonds or sapphires, rarely in Burma rubies.
