Rubellite Ring for Men from Victorian Era

About the Item

Dating to approximately 1890, this American-made men's ring features three gemmy, bright and vivid rubellite tourmaline stones set within a deeply carved 10K yellow gold band. Two round faceted rubellite gems weighing approximately half-a-carat each flank the central round faceted rubellite which weighs approximately 1 carat. All three tourmalines display rich and vivid color, even saturation and display excellent fire. Some people dismiss jewelry made from 10k -or lower- gold. But I love antique 10k gold jewelry because it has a unique patina due to the higher percentage of metals prone to oxidization. 24 karat gold will never oxidize and therefore it will never change color, not even over thousands of years. But 18k, 15k, 14k, 12k, 10k, 9k and 8k gold will change color over time. And the 10k gold in this ring has taken on a coppery hue that perfectly complements the vivid rubellite gems. What's the difference between rubellite and pink tourmaline? Rubellite looks the same no matter the light. In this case, we have three ruby-red tourmalines that look ruby red in natural light, candlelight, fluorescent light or incandescent light. In other words, it is quite impossible for this ring not to be beautiful, under all circumstances. Pure red gems like these are rare; the stones have no gray masking and It's also a highly durable ring, made for daily wear. The stones are inset into the band so that they are protected against bumps. Still, if you have a loupe you can see a fleabite here and there but nothing bothersome and in no way do these natural abrasions detract from the performance of the stones. The deeply carved shoulders add elegance and panache to this sleek and timeless band ring. This would be an excellent wedding band for the man who wanted something with an old soul and a little more sparkle and color than a plain metal band can deliver. Currently a size 10, this ring could be resized by your local jeweler.
