Antique Russian Imperial Porcelain Plate with Persian-Inspired Floral Decoration

A Russian porcelain dessert plate by the Imperial Porcelain Factory, St. Petersburg, period of Nicholas I (1825-1855). The plate with intertwining blossoms against a black ground within a gilt border. The ornament is reminiscent of Persian design and suggests that it could have been intended as a diplomatic gift, one of many Emperor Nicholas I exchanged with the Qajar rulers and dignitaries after 1830. Diameter: 8 5/8 in. (21.9 cm).
