John Gilbert England Sterling Silver Fish Fork and Knife Serving Set
About the Item
Antique sterling silver fish fork and knife serving set by John Gilbert of England, circa 1858.
No monogram
This beautifully ornate serving set are all sterling silver, both pieces feature open work and etched brite-cut design. There is also an etched bird design on both handles.
The knife measures approx 12 3/4" long, 1 1/2" wide across blade, the fork measures approx 9 1/4" long, 1 7/8" wide across tines.
Weighs approx 253.0g, 167.7dwt total
Both pieces are fully hallmarked. Knife is marked on the blade with lion (sterling) King's head (duty mark) J (1858 date mark) anchor (Birmingham hallmark) JG (John Gilbert maker's mark), fork is marked on the tine portion with J (1858 date mark) lion (sterling) King's head (duty mark) JG (John Gilbert maker's mark). Both pieces are also marked on the handles with crown (Sheffield) lion (sterling) King's head (duty mark).
Very nice condition, with some slight surface scratches and light tarnish.
Will be packaged securely and shipped US Priority Mail with insurance.
