Victorian Silver Sugar Bowl and Creamer with Foliate Embossing in Original Case

About the Item

Victorian Silver Sugar Bowl and Creamer with Foliate Embossing in Original Case Exquisite specimens of the late Victorian age of decadence embossed with foliate decoration and silver cased for serving sugar and cream to guests. During the revolutionary breakthroughs of the arts and sciences in England's Victorian era, there were equal advancements in the trade of textiles, steel, iron, and coal. This growth in commerce led to many rare items being crafted by artisans throughout the Queen’s countryside. As a result, many of the world’s most audacious treasured antiquities come from this period because they are still cherished by owners today. In this case, you can clearly see the unique markings of the craftworkers in the textured rim and decorative foliate embossing along the containers. From the base to the handle, these would have been brought out to impress guests and demonstrate the wealth and notoriety of the homeowners. Though they are meant for sugar and cream, they would have also been used during formal dinners as well for certain sauces and dessert crèmes. Along with the black cartouches, you can clearly see the maker marks for London in 1896 by Josiah Williams & Company. Both pieces are gently housed in a purple plush lined case with a gross weight of 104grams. This would have been created after Williams retired and had partnered with George Maudsley Jackson, which would eventually become the Bristol manufacturing giant until the mid-1940s due to the war. The sugar bowl is 5.3cm high and 8.3cm in diameter. The cream jug is 4.3cm by 10cm at max. This is a rare find because they are in good order and lack any personalized engraving, making them an excellent possible family heirloom. ------------------------------ Condition Report: In very good working order and unengraved. • Rare 18ct Ruby and Diamond Pocket Watch with Elaborate Mountings and Jewels
    Located in London, GB
While the origin of this particularly unique piece remains a mystery, the brilliance and fine craftsmanship are without question. This small 18ct jewellery pocket watch houses elaborate, decorative silver mounting and bezels. There are 6 rubies at the front and 6 old European cut diamonds at the back. The outside of this one-of-a-kind piece is adorned with blue enamel and a colourful floral decoration ringed with gold-plated leaf. The interior uses a gold-plated dial of roman numerals to tell time with excellent balance and a total weight of 36 g. Our experts date this piece to the early 1970s. The tradition of carrying around a pocket watch has been popular since at least the 14th century. It has continued well into our current era as a mark of a true gentleman. It wasn’t until after World War I that wristwatches came into fashion. Each watch has a unique design and style that speak to the craft house that produced the timepiece. There are two pocket watch styles in wide use: open-face and hinged. This piece is hinged with a protective shell equally adorned with the interior face. This piece is meant for more formal attire and most likely would not be worn on a daily occasion due to the exquisite jewellery contents. ------------------------------ Condition Report: Pristine condition with a diameter of 4 cm ------------------------------ ------------------------------ Provenance: From a private collection. ------------------------------ ------------------------------ Literature: Cf.:Barry S...
