About the Item

This pair of vases were made in the late Art Deco period to a design by Luc Lanel for French maker Christofle. The pair are what is known as 'dinanderie', a French term for decorative objects crafted from brass, bronze or copper, often incorporating two or three of the metals in a single piece. The vases could be translated to be depicting stairs, or 'escaliers' in French, and are a matched pair. Designed by Lucien 'Luc' Lanel (1893-1966) who was a designer working for Christofle during the Art Deco period the pair are an exceptional example of French Art Deco dinanderie. During his time working at Christofle, Lanel was known to have designed a large number of dinanderie pieces along with more restrained silver plated items. Fully signed to the underside, the pair have a beautiful patina to the finish, with only minor wear to the surface commensurate with age and use. A really beautiful pair of vases that could sit exceptionally well in a contemporary interior. Marked - 'Christofle' '277' likely a pattern number along with a small French mark Dimensions - 25cm H x 15cm D
