Gabriel. A Very Rare Gold Karrusel Keyless Fusee Half Hunter Pocket Watch C1901

About the Item

Gabriel. A Very Rare and Important Gold Karrusel Keyless Fusee Lever, Free Sprung with Power Reserve, Half Hunter Pocket Watch C1901 Dial: The excellent cream coloured dial with Roman numeral outer minute track subsidiary seconds at nine o'clock and subsidiary dial for power reserve at three o'clock. The rare original double Fleur d' Lis hour hand and matching minute hand in blued steel together with the original seconds hand and the original blued steel arrow hand for the power reserve dial. The dial is signed Gabriel and is numbered as well. Case: The massive 18ct gold half hunter case (195grms) with blue enameled Roman numerals to the front of the case, with a plain case back and a plain inner cover as well. The five knuckle hinge with anti theft pendant, hand set to the side of the case and winding safety button oppersite. The case is Englished Hallmarked for 1901. Movement: This very rare and important movement with keyless fusee lever escapement, free sprung, compensation balance and blued overcoil hairspring all built on a platform which revolves once every 52 minutes. The movement is chain driven fully signed Gabriel Cornhill, London. This pocket watch is indeed a rarity. Never have I seen a Karrusel watch with keyless fusee, power reserve and being free sprung. The case the movement and the dial which I believe to a Willis dial one of the most pre- eminent dial makers of his time all shows that this watch is one of the finest pocket watches ever produced by an English watchmaker.

Johann Heinrich Moser, born in Schaffhausen, Switzerland, hailed from a family of watchmakers. He honed his craft in Le Locle before relocating to Russia in the 1820s. Setting up a watch workshop in St. Petersburg in 1826, he adopted the anglicized name 'Henry Moser.' By 1828, Moser had established a trade office in St. Petersburg, expanding to Moscow in 1831. He even secured a residence permit for Nizhny Novgorod. Through the Nizhny Novgorod fair, Moser's watches found their way from Russia to India and China. Components were sourced from Le Locle and assembled in St. Petersburg. Some watch cases and dials were crafted in Moscow, evident from inscriptions like "H. MOSER IN MOSCOW." Moser's factory produced a diverse range of pocket watches for men...
