1931 Elgin Campus Model 467. White and Green Gold Filled! Art Deco Beauty

About the Item

Elgin, think Art Deco, think white and green gold-filled middle case, Think amazing condition. This is part of the Elgin Campus series that came out. This is the model 467. But first…… Think 1931! Think Elgin Campus Series! I have a shameless plug! My shop was recently selected to supply vintage American watches for a premier movie starring some major actors and a world famous director. They were looking for authentic watches that would represent the time period from 1915-1926. It is a true story of events that took place during the 1920’s. I have been an avid vintage watch collector for years. My soft spot is 1900-1940 American watches. Art Deco, my favorite time period for vintage wrist watches, (pun intended) This offering is one "Rare Bird" Why. Read below! ( That is a tease to get you to read more ) The ones that I do not wear very much get sold for other watches that may be hard to find. All my watches for sale are in above average condition, some are pristine. I pride myself in offering the best quality and reasonable prices. Remember, "Price is what you pay, value is what you get". This Elgin model usually does not survive “Father Time” very well. The cases are usually in rough condition, pitting, and excessive wear through. This one by the grace of the watch heavens survived and I found it! What a watch. It has a silver dial with raised gold numerals; the sweep hand is subtle and elegant. The bezel has no wear through; the case back is in pristine condition. The middle case is “Green Gold” filled. They get green gold by adding a touch more silver to the mixture Use these pictures as part of your visual description, if you need more info, please ask, I am happy to help and answer as many questions as you want. This is what I have completed on the watch. 1) Hand cleaned and polished the case 2) NOS crystal 3) Complete tear down movement service (December 2021) 4) Dial was refinished to its original status 5) New 16MM period correct style band The watch case measures: This is a larger case for the era, many watches during this time period were much smaller, this happens to have a larger footprint. This is an elegant timepiece. Dont wait, this case is in exceptional condition for its age and case material. What a treasure to take care of for the next generation! 31MM from 9 o’clock to 3 o’clock 38.75MM from Lug to Lug Elgin National Watch Co. • 1920"s Art Deco Gruen Quadron 15 Jewel, Restored, 14KY Gold Filled

My shop was recently selected to supply vintage American watches for a premier movie starring some major actors and a world famous director. They were looking for authentic watches that would represent the time period from 1915-1926. I was selected because of my attention to detail and originality. It is a true story of events that took place during the 1920’s. This would of been a perfect watch style for the film. Gruen "Quadron Model 63" Men's Art Deco design wristwatch in 14K yellow gold fill, circa 1930. This Quadron model has a large stepped case with a recessed crown. It was priced at $52.50 in 1930. It is in excellent condition showing only a few tiny specks of brassing to the bezel corners and a little to the tips of the lugs. The case back is excellent and unengaged, it does have a tiny flea bite. Dial is very good. Case measures 38mm long and 24mm wide. The watch is powered by its correct 15-jewel Gruen grade 157 Quadron manual wind movement, just serviced and running strong. In years from the 1920s through the 1940s, the Gruen Watch Company of USA & Switzerland was one of the leaders in wristwatch design and quality, even working together with Rolex. In 1925, Gruen introduced the men's Quadron. Similar in concept to the women's Cartouche models, these were rectangular watches containing very high-quality 15-j or 17-j tonneau-shaped movements. A larger movement is generally more reliable and accurate, and is generally more rugged, than a smaller one of the same quality, so the Gruen Cartouche and Quadron, with their case-filling, purpose-built movements performed much better than the small, round movements used by most of their competitors at the time. Round movements were still used in the less expensive rectangular Gruen wristwatches...

You know me, I have to give some history to you better understand what you are looking at. The better you are informed, the more comfortable you will feel This is a caliber 559, 21 jewels. This is what has been completed with this watch Complete movement tear down service Dial was refinished back to original status The case was hand polished to bring out the luster of gold filled NOS crystal installed The case was ultrasonically cleaned to remove years of grime Genuine 14MM Alligator dark brown band (remember it is a Lord Elgin) In 1910, the Elgin National Watch Company pioneered its first wristwatch, leading ahead of other American watch companies. Elgin watches produced many of the self-winding wristwatch movements such as 607 and 618 calibres (bumper wind), and 760 and 761 calibres (30 and 27 jewels). Elgin watches also played a role in history during World War I and World War II. In WWI, the manufacturing site workers taught repair techniques to hundreds of U.S. military soldiers. While in WWII, Elgin began to craft timepieces and other watch parts for the military. Lord Elgin Watches are often made with gold plated cases and leather straps. This collection consists of classic dress watches for men, perfect for business and formal evening occasions. These watches come in different shape cases: square, circular, and rectangular. The style of Lord Elgin watch is very elegant and refined. Interestingly, no two models look similar to each other. Since I was young I’ve been around watches of all kinds. Everything from a $20 Swiss army watch...
