It is the 10th generation of the Navitimer series to date and a fan favorite. The Chrono-Matic, which was introduced in 1968 marks the first time a Navitimer ever housed a chronograph function, while this later series introduced in 1973, adapts that functionality to a more traditional and versatile case design. *****This version specifically is ULTRA RARE and may even be one of kind. I have never scene another one like it for sale anywhere. The real special part about this watch is that it is one of the few Breitling watches EVER retailed by TIFFANY & CO. !!! ***** I know we are going to get a lot of emails asking if the Tiffany & Co markings are original. The watch has been opened, authenticated, looped, and deemed genuine. Markings have not been added. Many people don't even know that Tiffany & Co. ever retailed watches for Breitling. The serial #'s have been cross referenced at Breitling, and with the help of some accommodating people in the archives department, we were able to confirm a few more interesting details about the watch itself. According to them, this timepiece was produced when Breitling was dealing with bankruptcy issues. As such, many of their authorized distributors were shut down and reputable boutiques like Tiffany & Co. were commissioned a select few models for retail distribution. This is one of those few, VERY rare pieces according to the hallmarks on the dial. In terms of the brand's historical significance, this watch is quite special, and commemorates a very interesting point in time for Breitling that many people do not even know about. Watch aficionados know that vintage Rolex and Patek Philippe timepieces were retailed by Tiffany & Co. too. The one's that bare a "Tiffany & Co." genuine stamped dial trade at a premium due to their scarcity and collectible nature. Any Breitling collector would value this watch for same reason. It is quite possible that this is the only one in existence today due to the low production run of the watch in general, and the small time period in which the co-branding occurred. I have only scene one Breitling "Tiffany & Co." stamped dial EVER sell at auction and have included the listing too for your reference. This other Breitling Chrono-matic dial was inspected, deemed genuine, and further helps to validate that co-branding did in fact occur through their retail chain during this time period. The watch was featured at the Antiquorrum auction house. This is a previously owned watch in very clean working order. The crystal shows some very light surface scratches from previous wear, but dial is superbly mint and does not exhibit any signs of tampering. Case is also very clean and does not have any ding.

For pilots and others in love with flight, no brand is more closely associated with the world of aviation than Breitling. From the beginning, watchmaker Léon Breitling, who opened his shop in the Swiss Jura Mountains in 1884, was focused on chronographs and their uses in the burgeoning fields of sports, science and industry.

After Léon’s death, in 1914, his son Gaston continued along his father’s trajectory. An early fan of aeronautics, Gaston introduced one of the first wrist-worn chronographs, a welcome upgrade for pilots used to executing complex maneuvers while juggling a pocket watch.

In 1934, Gaston’s son Willy made another leap in the chronograph’s evolution, patenting the first wristwatch with two pushers — one to start and stop elapsed time and one to reset — a feature now taken for granted.

But perhaps the most significant development under Willy’s leadership was the Chronomat watch. Introduced in 1942, it featured a patented rotating slide-rule bezel for making calculations on the fly. This innovation led to the 1952 creation of the brand’s signature timepiece: the Breitling Navitimer.

Designed in partnership with the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, it was adopted as the official watch of the AOPA in 1959 and remains the world’s most iconic pilot’s watch. Not content to rule just the air, Breitling developed dive watches as well, including the Superocean, released in 1957, and the Transocean, which followed in 1958. The house also took its show on the road, producing dashboard clocks and then watches in partnership with luxury automaker Bentley.

The Navitimer, however, still reigns supreme among pilots everywhere. Given the stature earned by Top Gun since its release — as well as the excitement around Top Gun: Maverick — it's never too late to pick up a vintage Breitling Top Gun Navitimer, displaying the official logo of the United States Navy Fighter Weapons School, for yourself or your favorite wingman.
