Winter Mist at a Farm in the English Countryside by 20th Century British Artist
By Wendy Reeves
Located in Preston, GB
Winter Mist at a Farm in the English Countryside by 20th Century British Artist, Wendy Reeves Art measures 40 x 20 inches Frame measures 46 x 26 inches (framed in a high quality ornate gold moulding) Wendy Reeves garnered acclaim for her Scottish Highland and Lakeland paintings. Born in 1944 in Ewell, Surrey, she took to her father Gordon’s craft, deciding early on that she would be a painter. Prior to her famous paintings of the British Isles, artist Wendy Reeves painted scenes from a trip she made to Spain when she was 21. It was during this time that her dream of following in her father’s footsteps became a reality, and when she returned to England she cemented her name as an artist. Wendy Reeves' paintings showcase her talent with natural landscapes and the wildlife that inhabits them. Her work often features ochre and pink lights...

The Tree by the Lake, Värmland, By Racken Group Artist Ture Ander
Located in Stockholm, SE
This painting by Ture Ander, created in 1917, depicts a serene landscape from Värmland, Sweden. At the center of the composition is a large tree, likely a deciduous species, as suggested by the hints of autumn seen in both the tree and the meadow below it. The short brushstrokes used to depict the leaves and grass evoke a sense of movement and texture, typical of the early 20th-century artistic style. Another beautiful detail is the bluish-tinted forested mountains in the background, creating a sense of depth and tranquility. Ture Ander played a significant role in the Racken group (Rackstadkolonin), an important artistic collective in Sweden at the time. Ander was born on September 17 in Askers socken, Örebro. At the age of 13, he became an apprentice painter in Stockholm, attending evening classes at the Technical School (now known as Konstfack) while working during the day. He earned his journeyman’s certificate in 1902, and the following year, he graduated from the Technical School with the highest honors in painting. In 1905, he was accepted into the Konstnärsförbundets skola (School of the Artists' Association), where he studied alongside notable artists like Leander Engström, Isaac Grünewald, and Einar Nerman...

19th Century genre oil painting of figures in a cottage with animals

Charles Hunt Jnr British, (1829-1900) A Visitor Calls Oil on canvas, signed Image size: 24.75 inches x 34.75 inches Size including frame: 32.25 inches x 42.25 inches A wonderful genre painting by Charles Hunt of two men and two boys with horses and other animals in a cottage. Perhaps encouraged by the boys, a piglet seems to have found its way onto the table whilst a rabbit and guinea pig eat cabbage leaves on the floor. Ca. 1820 Portrait of a Woman with Kashmir shawl.
Located in Firenze, IT
Ca. 1820 Portrait of a Woman. Léon Cogniet (1794-1880, Paris), attributed. French school of 19th century. Tecnicque: oils on canvas. Dimensions: 70cm x 61cm 20th century wooden frame. Old attribution to Léon Cogniet (1794-1880, Paris) is inscribed on the wooden frame. Portrait of the restoration period, post Napoleonic wars. Stylistically the painting is found in the transition period from the late Empire period to the beginning of Romanticism. The new artistic trends can be seen in the increased naturalism, representation of the landscape/nature, in the contrasts, and in a greater emotionality of the person represented. Detailed but loose is the way to describe the winter dress...

Girl in restaurant in Paris. 19th century, oil on wood, 46x37, 5 cm
By Eduardo Leon Garrido
Located in Riga, LV
Girl in restaurant in Paris. 19th century, oil on wood, 46x37,5 cm Eduardo Léon Garrido (1856-1949) Eduardo León Garrido was born in Madrid in 1856. He falls within the Group of Spaniards in Paris, as he warns in his style, with clear influences of Impressionism, somewhat reminiscent of Manet. He was the eldest son of Luis Garrido Fernandez, an official at the Ministry of Finance. His father would have liked him to embrace an administrative career but Eduardo León moved towards the artistic career. Trained in the Escuela Superior de Madrid, he painted his first work « the theft of the Sabine women », at only eighteen years old. Then he entered the Studio of Vicente Palmaroli (1834-1896). He will always consider the latter as his true teacher. In 1875, at the age of 19, he arrived in Paris to continue his studies with a scholarship from the city of Madrid. The same year he exhibited for the first time at the Salon where he presented a « Saint Jerome ». Very quickly he appears to be noticed by the famous merchant of the Rue Chaptal, Adolphe Goupil, for who he worked a few years. Notice that Vincent van Gogh worked for Goupil & Cie from 1869 till 1876 (his brother Theo entered in 1873. From 1876 on Garrido exhibits portraits and stylish, contemporary scenes. Catalogues indicates that he changed his dealer for the gallery Borniche around 1880. During the years 1882-1894 he did not expose anymore at the Salon (except once, in 1887, with the portrait of his friend, the painter Bréauté) . However, he painted a lot to feed the gallery of his dealer and a few galleries in Madrid. During that period he had also some student : Anne Blanche Dillaye (1851-1931), the american painter, studied with him from 1885 till 1887. From 1892 onwards it is the merchant Félix Gérard (one of the first dealers of work by Manet and Courbet), of the Rue Lafitte, which concludes with him an exclusive contract. He probably imposed to the artist to paint a different style. This sealed a radical departure from his 1880-1890 period, during which he painted the streets of Paris, café terraces, newspaper kiosks, and was likened to very fashionable Belle-Époque artists. From 1892 onwards, Garrido painted almost solely gallant scenes in the 18th century style, in keeping with current tastes and clients’ demands. Meanwhile, Garrido left Paris. In 1888 he established a studio on the banks of the Marne at La Varenne-Saint-Hilaire (Val-de-Marne near Paris). He married there in 1892 one of its models, Leonie Beck, and in 1893 their first child, Louis- Edouard, was born. He is quickly integrated into local life and became an art teacher in the Philotechnic Association of La Varenne.
