Large Neo-Greek Vase by F. Levillain & F. Barbedienne, France, circa 1890
By Ferdinand Levillain, Ferdinand Barbedienne
Located in PARIS, FR
Important neo-Greek vase in the shape of an Amphora, made in two patina bronze. The body is decorated with a rich continuous frieze in bas-relief presenting a procession of characters carrying their offerings to the temple, underlined by a decoration of theatrical masks among olive trees. The 's'-scroll handles decorated with grape vines, resting only on the shoulder of the vase, are supported by a ram’s head. Numerous palmettes and friezes adorn the whole. Resting on a molded marble circular base. Biography Ferdinand Levillain (Paris, 1837-1905) studied under the sculptor Jouffroy (1806-1882), before making his debut in 1861 at the French Artists Salon where he continued to exhibit until 1903. At the 1867 Universal Exhibition in Paris, he was praised for a Neo-Greek style bronze cup he made for the firm Blot and Drouard. He was not to become really famous, however, until 1871 thanks to his association with the great bronze founder Ferdinand Barbedienne, who began to exhibit Neo-Greek style lamps...

19th Century Wien Wall Lamp with 7 Lights in Antique Bronze and Crystal
By OMBRES ET FACETTES, Josef Hoffmann
Located in SAINT-OUEN-SUR-SEINE, FR
This wall lamp is inspired by a chandelier model of Josef Hoffmann (architect and designer member of the Viennese Secession). Indeed, the lower part of the sconce, composed of three palm leaves adorned with drops, is close to that of the Austrian architect’s successful model. However, the composition is more complex than its original. A light plate, whose ornaments recall the eighteenth century, completes the stage of palms, itself topped by a shell. The latter opens on three floors in half-crown, decorated with drops. These crowns are reminiscent of the chandeliers of Central European countries (one thinks of the chandelier of Werner and Mieth in the Russian taste, dating from the nineteenth century and preserved in the Mathieu Museum), as well as the edges of the shell take the form of lava flow. Skillfully mixing these three parts, this wall lamp offers a very soft light, thanks to the crystal drops acting as a louver. We have one wall lamp...

Sculpture the Tiger and the Bulldog, Aaron Hinojosa, 20th Century
Located in CRÉTEIL, FR
Magnificent sculpture named "the tiger with the bulldog" is a unique piece. Mixed technique, particularity of its creator, mastering the recycling of all materials at hand, always with an ecological concern, conveying messages on what he lived or wanted to denounce in his time. Period: 20th century Dimensions: Height: 39cm x width: 25cm x depth: 16cm. 24 carat leaf gilding This feline is not chosen by chance, the tiger is a strong symbol of vitality, unpredictability, strength but also of self-confidence. It also strongly symbolizes ambition and justice. On his head, like a cap, the face of the man with his eyes raised to the sky. On his back, like a backpack, the bulldog's head. The bulldog, with its massive, muscular, stocky body as well as a powerful jaw evokes strength. His strength, his tenacity, his willingness to fight stronger animals. This sculpture certainly found its inspiration in England, or Aaron Hinojosa, the first country where he stayed after leaving Mexico. Victorian...

Marie Pierre Thiebaud, Golden Bronze
Located in Saint-Ouen, FR
Marie Pierre Thiebaud (1933-2010) Golden bronze Founder's stamp: Valsuani Draft 1 / 4 Measures: height: 21 cm Length: 36cm Depth: 22cm Description This art piece was made by Marie-Pierre Thiébaut. Her name is engraved on the side of the sculpture: « THIEBAUT », as well as the print run number: « 1 / 4 ». There is also the foundry stamp « C VALSUANI CIRE PERDUE ». This sculpture is composed by seven individual pieces. There is a main piece on which rest bronze elements, including two spheres and three elements which are articulated around a cylinder. Close to abstraction, the shape can remind of a sea creature. The artist conceives a sculpture with vaporous forms which plays with effects of brightness and contrasts, in particular thanks to marked undulations. As the preface of the book, Marie-Pierre Thiébaut, La forme-geste reminds us, the artist’s work can’t be dissociated of a mineral and natural world : « Some of the pieces remind us of undulations of the sea bed, the granulated skin of a wave, the intimacy of a body. A whole universe touched, suggested with grace, fervor and present with touches of absolute. » In addition, the writer Marguerite Duras wonders about the vision of her work in the preface of the exhibition Lanscapes in 1972 : « Where are we? at the bottom of the sea? at the bottom of a woman? in a fruit? I believe that we are both in the sea and inside of an organ. in the primary, common environment, the marine symbiosis. » Marie Pierre Thiebaud Biography : Marie-Pierre Thiébaut (1933-2010) is an artist, sculptor and visual artist. She favors natural materials such as earth, wood, or paper. Bronze is also one of the mediums She uses, although rarer in her creative process. At the beginning of the 1950’s, Marie-Pierre Thiébaut trained at the Academy of the Grande Chaumière, with Ossip Zadkine, who would say of his apprentice "that he was young, and sculpture becoming the primary concern of her life, I am sure that the sun will illuminate her work of a truly discovered world” During this period she explores the sensuality of the female body. Her work expresses a personal serenity, developed on the margins of any theoretical thought. The essence of her work lies in the contemplation of forms and what they can evoke for the viewer. Our work is the perfect synthesis. Thus her gesture has consequences since Marie-Pierre Thiébaut offers the world a sensitive and dreamlike universe. Many art personalities such as François Barré, the painter Jean Degottex...
