Dancing with the Moon & the Sun

Dancing with the Moon & the Sun

Just as the title of this show is called the conversation. I immediately thought of how my practice in painting is exactly that. A conversation with self in my healing, my spirituality, and my life experience. I wanted to dive deeper into the spirit of conversation; I began to think of nature and the cycles that omnipresent. Thinking of the gift of dance, between the daily presences of the Moon and the Sun. Hanwi being the Lakota spirit of the moon and Wi being the spirit of the sun. Giving us both time to rest and grow and the other giving use light and warmth of nourishment.

Austin Willis (b.1993, California) is a self- taught artist focused on exploring one’s spiritual journey. Using abstraction as the gateway of expression to these intimate moments of questioning and growth in one’s life. This provides a deeper insight in his own battles with anxiety and depression, personal traumas, and the desire to continuously seek understanding. Within his practice there is an exploration of traditional and non-traditional painting materials to help better express these moments he’s looking to reflect. He lives and works in New Jersey.
