The Expansion Of Desire
In 2001, I won the TORAY International Digital Art Award (US$10,000) for the original version of this image. Here is the ultimate iteration. With this achievement, I helped to establish digital art as the true basis of current art.
Here is the rationale of this image: Flat art forms that visualize volumetric objects compress three dimensions into two, collapsing space into a plane. Instead of portraying an object or event, this abstraction suggests the aesthetic longing to cheat nature, portraying the universe as flat, then envisioning its extension into creative space by the expansion of desire.
I am a visual artist, sound artist, and writer. My novels have been published by Villard and Tor. My digital art, movies, sound pieces, and fiction have appeared in numerous magazines, web-sites, podcasts, and film festivals. I used to paint houses (not as an art form.)
I began making art in the previous century. Though I have never abandoned my beginnings, I no longer use paint or a typewriter: the world is now digital, and so am I.
