Vacation Home by Black Lacquer Design in Los Angeles, CA

Bringing historic homes back to their former glory is an incredibly satisfying endeavor - especially with a client, like this one, who appreciates the delicate balance between celebrating the timeless architectural details of their 1920’s craftsman and making it all feel vibrant, fresh, and distinctly personal. Said client - an Australian couple well-versed in tackling renovations - purchased this bungalow in Silver Lake and immediately wanted to breathe fresh life into it. In the bedroom, they envisioned a wood-paneled headboard with integrated storage; in the office, custom architectural molding; and for the small kitchen, a level of function and style that belied its size. We made all these design dreams a reality and more by tiling the entire guest bath floor to ceiling in a pink penny round punctuated by chic, black accents; transforming a dark, petite-boned bathroom into part of a light and airy master suite; stripping and staining the original red oak flooring (and finding a perfect match for it to replace the non-original kitchen flooring) in a deep ebony; and, refinishing the woodwork throughout to erase the years of clunky paint coats.
