Cultura Bookstore

Retail by Studio MK27 in New York, BR

A bookstore as a meeting place. This was the main premise of the architectural project of the bookstore Livraria Cultura at Iguatemi Shopping Center. More than just merely a place to shop, the store is inviting to stay and hang-out. Thus, we sought for visitors to not only find a book that they might be looking for, but rather that they remain there. At the top floor there is a large room, with tables and club-chairs, as well as 21m wide bleachers opening over the span. Inviting to leaf through the pages of a book or even to hold small concerts and lectures, this structure leads the visitors to the open mezzanine. The books encircle the space, mostly in shelves with built-in LEDs that delimit the space, as a cube internally clad with books. These are inviting and pleasant spaces that end up promoting a type of socialization, in which we considered to be the bookstores of the XXI century. The program is the very life of the store.
