Montecito Pied a terre

Vacation Home by Corinne Mathern Studio in Montecito, CA

In 2019 Corinne was hired to convert the 1000 square foot second floor of a 1925 Tudor residence to a well appointed one bedroom apartment. The space was tragically chopped up into five offices that masked the building’s angled ceilings and made them burdensome instead of beautiful. The charm of the space was bogged down with heavy iron light fixtures and white paints with yellow undertones. Corinne’s client wanted a light filled apartment with elements that nodded to traditional Tudor elements but with modern hues.

In order to give the clients a kitchen with a view, Corinne swapped the kitchen to the other side of the property so it is swathed in light every morning. The dark space where the kitchen was previously situated became a cozy nook and book shelf within a room that was expanded to be the master bedroom. Linen draperies and custom ceramic light fixtures by Natasha Wheat were added to bring texture and a handmade feel to the space.
