West 54th Street

Apartment by Rees Roberts & Partners in New York, NY

A 900 square-foot pied-à-terre in the historic Rockefeller Apartments building required careful attention to interior detail at an intriguingly minute scale. This jewel box with views overlooking the sculpture garden of the Museum of Modern Art manages to be both glamorous and subtle without being loud or austere. The living room, with its pale wood tones and lively mix of colors and textures, is punctuated by shapely furnishings, sculptures, and the client's own collection of vintage glass and metal pieces; muted cork floors are blanketed by a custom-colored silk rug. The bedroom, with walls clad in a serene beige silk, acts as counterpart to the exuberant living room. No detail in the scrupulously efficient apartment was left unconsidered; even the dressing room is covered in an ivory-color faux ostrich and the interiors of the antiqued-mirror cabinetry are a particular shade of coral custom-chosen to match the client's favorite Yves Saint Laurent perfume.
