About the Item
In 2021 Rosie Sanders departed from her well-known bright botanical studio works to at the same time produce monochrome works of landscape drawing, immortalising particular woodland scenes close to her heart and Devon home. Her titles are tender poetic conceits that heighten awareness of the life of certain trees and their habitats—particular moments that have struck her on these walks she has taken for over 15 years. Each piece in Spirit of Place has an acutely rendered beauty, with a unique technique for its subject's special atmosphere and focus. The character of each composition is brought to life hand in hand with the lore of her titles, which further conduct the mythic sense of time in black and white, to create a monumental and magical new body of work.
