Underworld, Past- From the series " Past, Now, Future" by Parimah Avani - 2023
Located in Roma, IT
Underworld, Past is a drawing realized by Iranian artist and Poet Parimah Avani in 2023. China ink, acrylic, and mixed media on Japanese Kozo paper with applied Tengujo Kashmir paper and Papyrus, Plettenberg, DE. Exhibited in " Heroine's Journey" 2023, in Gallery hall of German Bank " Sparkasse", Winner of scholarship and art residency "Werkstatt Plettenberg" in DE, 2023. From the series " Past,  Now, Future" in which the central piece "Earth- Now" is in the Municipal collection of Plettenberg, Germany. Hand-signed and dated. The artwork is represented with alchemical, magical, and mythological symbols and signs, through rebellious miniature figures, creatures and animals that shape the whole body of time and three words, here the past - underworld has the shape of the head of a horse, with by metal colors referring to the alchemical process of soul in a minimalistic manner, painting is characterized by expressive brushes. In a fusion of myth and archetypal features, the works aim to transport viewers into the intricate realm of "Heroine's Journey," an exhibition that encapsulates the essence of unity, rebellion and revolutionary figures, transformation, and resistance, and the enduring power of mythological narratives.  Through a combination of limited colors, shapes, and ancient symbolism, these works invite an odyssey that transcends the boundaries of culture, time, and narrative. Drawing inspiration from Joseph Campbell's Hero's Journey. Avani's works weave together a narrative that celebrates the interconnectedness of all living beings.  Avani employs a chosen palette of alchemical colors: various gold, silver, bronze, tint, and copper, representing metals and planets. Each color carries deep, symbolic significance. Gold symbolizes the golden spirit and enlightenment, while silver connects to the feminine aspect and the moon's goddess associations. Copper represents both women and the essence of love. These colors create a narrative resonating with universal themes of transformation and spirituality, mirroring the elevation of the soul through alchemical symbolism. Parimah Avani, born in 1988 in Tehran, Iran, is a multidisciplinary artist and a recognized figure in contemporary hermetic Persian literature and the avant-garde "Other" movement. Her book, "Magic Verses of Antalus," was a finalist for the prestigious "Shamlou" Award. Her most recent achievement is winning an art competition for a scholarship from Werkstatt Plettenberg in Germany, culminating in a solo exhibition held at the Gallery of the German Bank of Sparkasse. Avani's artistic journey began with travels to China and Russia during her formative years, oriental philosophies, particularly Zen and Buddhism, and folk arts ignited her passion for comparative mythology evident in her archaic style. In 2009, she moved to Rome, Italy to study multimedia art, and gained a Master’s in painting at the Fine Art Academy of Rome. Immersed in cultural parallels between East and West, mythological themes transcend boundaries in art, exploring magic and ancient scripts inspired by the scholarly insights of Frazer and Eliade on rituals. Her anthropological view culminated in a Ph.D. in the history of...

Invisible Cloak of Freedom - Paint by Parimah Avani - 2021
Located in Roma, IT
Invisible Cloak of Freedom is realized by Iranian Painter and Poet Parimah Avani in 2021. Sumi, Persian ink, and acrylic on kraft paper. Hand-signed and dated. Excellent conditions. From the series "Resistance and Alchemical Metals" The artwork is expressively poetic, with an exclusive title that refers to the socio-political context, and the application of limited color of metals" various copper, gold, silver, bronze" have metaphorical features of alchemy. In this series artist took positions, and gestures of revolutionary and rebellious bodies on the battlefield of revolution and transformed them dynamically into precious sources of resistance by spiritual transitions of colors akin to alchemy, meat, and blood found their symbolic meaning through colors and expressive brushstrokes, metals here refer to bodies of freedom seekers, shapable, flexible, shiny and a source of strength, that highlights how a body becomes a battlefield, a golden source of sacrifice, a silver font of resistance, copper as blood, continuos fighting for freedom.  What makes this series unique: it is deeply behind the dynamic emotion of each gestural figure, in a minimalistic manner, and the vigorous and unbridled energy of brushstrokes, is raw, spontaneous, and emotionally charged.  Her works in this series challenge oppression and the theme of freedom by applying oriental brushstrokes of calligraphy in ink as a primary tool, to fragile subjects.  Parimah Avani, born in 1988 in Tehran, Iran, is a multidisciplinary artist and a recognized figure in contemporary hermetic Persian literature and the avant-garde "Other" movement. Beaten Rose of Revolution - Paint by Parimah Avani - 2022
Located in Roma, IT
Beaten Rose of Revolution is a Drawing realized by Iranian Painter and Poet Parimah Avani in 2022. China ink and acrylic on ivory-colored paper. Hand-signed and dated with the embossing stamp. Excellent conditions. Presented in a Personal exhibition of "le Poesie Di Lutto e Di Lotta " (The Poems of Struggle and Mourning) curated by Leda Bartolucci in Turin, Italy, Bagni Pubblici, 2022. The artwork is poetically created through expressionistic brush strokes, the well-applied dry and watery strokes from the series “The Poems of Struggle and Mourning " in poetic style representing revolutionary figures in a minimalistic manner. What makes this series unique: is deeply behind the dynamic emotion of each figure and abstract form, four colors here have metaphorical features; pink as woman, yellow as hope, silvery as resistance, and red as blood. Her works in this series challenge oppression, torture, censorship, and gender-related issues themes by applying oriental brushstrokes of calligraphy in ink as a primary tool, to fragile subjects. She portrays her Eastern identity through materials and techniques as a fundament, adding layers of today's socio-political concerns. In her Exhibition "Heroine's Journey" presented in the Sparkasse Plettenberg, Germany in 2023, she with the same approach successfully presented revolutionary and rebellious gestures figures. The panoramic lines inspired by Persian calligraphy created motifs and repetition harmoniously in a neat composition,  each reminding mysterious words. The style of Persian calligraphy and her knowledge of poetry let her create a visual poem in an expressionistic style,  the use of space and maintaining an empty background and foreground intentionally have been made to emphasize the solitude and loneliness of figures and at the same time connect to oriental calligraphy in which empty space has the same value as the filled one, succeed to create pure incarnation. Avani's artworks have evident characteristics, firstly strongly inspired by Tachisme's “Abstraction lyrique" and artworks of Henri Michaux, and Hans Hurting secondly oriental Persian calligraphy of poem style is evident in her artworks, finally dynamic sensation of revolutionary art, the slogan of street wall transformed into contemporary language and its features intuitively are subtly inserted. Parimah Avani, born in 1988 in Tehran, Iran, is a multidisciplinary artist and a recognized figure in contemporary hermetic Persian literature and the avant-garde "Other" movement. Boom, Bust, Repeat - Nick Peña - Contemporary Landscape/Abstract Painting
Located in Signal Mountain, TN
In BOOM BUST REPEAT17, Peña creates a silhouette of house and fills it with sharpe-edged shapes that contain gradients and saturated hues of red, green, and violet. He balances these colors with muted tones of orange and yellow . The viewer can create a house that is yet to be built in between the gaps here. In "Boom, Bust, Repeat", Peña remarks on a house and landscape that has yet to take place. The painting is created with watercolor and acrylic paint on paper. In the foreground we see Sintra board or flattened PVC that has been CNC routed. In the "soil" beneath the house are small circular lines that have been hand drawn with India ink. The Sintra board has been cut to reveal arrows in the negative space pointing upwards as to hint at a boom in the market. Peña’s works range from painting to multimedia installations that question the ever-changing psychological landscape of America; asking the viewer to re-examine their perceptions of the “American Dream” and the affects that pursuit has on our environment and national psyche. The realization that both the idealistic pursuit of happiness and the relevance of painting in a technologically driven world informs his practice. With each composition the labor begins with digital composites of a fragmented American landscape in peril —where tension lies in the contrasts between past and present, analog and digital, representation and abstraction, and stability and instability. In his most recent series the American home (stability) and fragmented and shifting landscape (instability) are veiled by a digitally produced mat. Traditionally a mat is, by definition, a flat, thin piece of paper based material included within the picture frame and serves as additional decoration when framing artwork. He activates this commonly overlooked material by using a non-traditional material, Sintra (flattened sheet of PVC), that has a negative digitally drawn image cut-out. This cut-out might, at first glance, look hand cut however, a more astute viewer would realize the precision is mechanical. The mat has been transformed from inactive decoration to digitally produced veil that represents the technologically anxious precision we surround ourselves with. Nick Peña...

Potion of Eternal Freedom - Paint by Parimah Avani - 2023
Located in Roma, IT
Potion of Eternal Freedom is a realized by Iranian Painter and Poet Parimah Avani in 2023. In this series artist took positions, and gestures of revolutionary and rebellious bodies on the battlefield of revolution and transformed them dynamically into precious sources of resistance by spiritual transitions of colors akin to alchemy, meat, and blood found their symbolic meaning through colors and expressive brushstrokes, metals here refer to bodies of freedom seekers, shapable, flexible, shiny and a source of strength, that highlights how a body becomes a battlefield, a golden source of sacrifice, a silver font of resistance, copper as blood and women fighting for freedom.  What makes this series unique: it is deeply behind the dynamic emotion of each gestural figure, in a minimalistic manner, and the vigorous and unbridled energy of brushstrokes, is raw, spontaneous, and emotionally charged. In her Exhibition "Heroine's Journey" presented in the Sparkasse Plettenberg, Germany in 2023, she with the same approach successfully presented revolutionary and rebellious gestures by applying the same limited colors of alchemical metals. Her most recent achievement is winning an art competition for a scholarship from Werkstatt Plettenberg in Germany, culminating in a solo exhibition held at the Gallery of the German Bank...
