About the Item
ABOUT THE ARTWORK
This extraordinary artwork is expertly crafted on canvas, delicately layered over an artist-made panel, creating a dynamic interplay of textures. The addition of epoxy and six millimeter airsoft ammunition, meticulously applied, adds a distinctive tactile quality that invites closer inspection. The piece is adorned with a poly primer silver deposit and candy color, enhancing its visual impact and giving it a captivating allure.
The artist says of this series, "These works are a bridge and love letter between my old studio in Los Angeles (2004-21) and an ever evolving practice here in Virginia. Exchangescape as a title speaks to the transfer of different times in life and location and condenses into a work that viewers can imprint their own ideas and surroundings. I planned and made chromed surfaces before moving to Virginia that intentionally would be completed with color later and in a new location. Applying the color, surrounded by woods, changed the way I thought about blending and laying down the candy coat from viewing reflections of trees in the works themselves."

John Monn is an interdisciplinary artist who lives and works in Los Angeles. His work utilizes a range of materials, creating theatrical installations, paintings, and sculptures amongst others. Monnʼs practice currently centers around a repetitious process of gestural models sketched in 3D. The models help hone fluid forms to then craft objects that inspire introspection. John also plays with scale both digitally and with physical objects presented in ways to alter perception and to spike curiosity in materials and environment. Graduating with a BFA from James Madison University in 2004, John Monn has since exhibited across the world in major cities such as New York, Paris, and Los Angeles where he currently resides. This 48 inch square original textural painting of trees on canvas is wired and ready to hang. It is signed by the artist on the back. The thick layering of colorful paint, resin, glitter and other mixed media elements present a dazzling tactile nature to the work. This would be a marvelous addition to any collection.
ABOU THE ARTIST - For over 20+ years, Haleh Mashian’s art has colorfully illustrated her unique, astute view of the world, both real and imagined. As a painter and creative expressionist, Mashian’s abstract works reveal her appreciation of color theory, compositional form, and the study of positive and negative space. Working in mixed media and using a variety of techniques from collage to impasto, a repeated layering and application of paint, Mashian’s dynamic pieces range from smaller artworks that can be arranged together to large-scale paintings. Her large-paneled paintings have been exhibited nationally in Los Angeles, Miami, and other art enclaves and are included in private collections in the United States and abroad.
Her creativity extends into other forms as well. Haleh has included fashion design, digital art, and music into her repertoire of boundless expression. She is the Founder and Lead Designer for MASH City, her innovative men’s and womenswear collection. Originally from Iran, she is a longtime resident of Southern California with a Studio in Santa Monica where she lives with her husband and two children.
TREE SERIES - The Tree Series presents an intricate study of positive and negative space and the mystery of multitudes in minimalism.
These canvases, often large-scale, have the effect of walking into a multicolored forest.
Art critic, Peter Frank, speaks of this series with awe:
“Haleh Mashian does not paint trees. She does not paint forests. She paints the condition that persists between trees and forests...
